“Christ has made my soul beautiful with the jewels of grace and virtue.” I love this quote from St. Agnes so much. As I’ve gotten older, the appreciation I have for the gifts of grace and virtue has grown...if only I could go back and tell my younger self that! What advice would you give your younger self?

In creating this doll, i focused on her hair as a central feature. It was said to have miraculously grown after she was stripped in the streets of Rome, so her image here shoes her with hair that appears to be still in motion. A martyr, she holds the traditional lamb and palm frond.

You guys, I'm super excited about this new product

You guys, I'm super excited about this new product!! This year, my goal is to celebrate the saints in our home. I'm horrible at remembering the dates, though. So, I wanted a way to keep them front and center...and created this lovely liturgical tea towel. The towel has the 2020 calendar printed on organic cotton canvas, and each month has the saint beside it. The saint's feast day is circled, ensuring you'll never miss their feast day! The second version adds in the seasons of Lent and Advent, as well as a few other key solemnity and celebratory days. So, what do you think? “On this Feast of Epiphany in the year 1

“On this Feast of Epiphany in the year 1929, an 18-year-old woman arrived by train in the capital of the Bengal State in British India. Raised in comfort in Eastern Europe, this bright, young woman was to spend the next 20 years of her life as a Sister of Loretto, teaching geography to wealthy high school girls in the capital’s suburbs.

In 1949, at the age of 38, this same woman felt a powerful call from God to spend her life serving the dying and the poorest of the poor. She asked the local bishop for permission to found a religious order whose only ministry would be to the poor and the dying.

In her lifetime, Mother Teresa of Calcutta had treated over 50,000 dying people. Her order, the Missionaries of Charity, today counts over 1,600 sisters in more than 60 countries around the world. She was honored by presidents and applauded by prime ministers. 50 years after she set foot India, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Mother Teresa’s vision of the ministry of Jesus Christ, our sharing in that ministry as Christ’s embrace of today’s world, is simple but challenging. She once described it this way: “Everyone is created by God and deserving of love. It does not matter if the person is male or female, Moslem, Christian or Jew. Happy New Year! I’m enjoying a quiet day at home

Happy New Year! I’m enjoying a quiet day at home today cleaning up the quilting studio. It’s gotten to be quite a mess with all the year end sewing going on, and I’m thankful to be getting things back in order. One thing I’m thankful to have done, as part of the organizing, is to replace my old cutting mat with a beautiful new one by @sewology. Now that I have it, I’m taking extra special care to extend its life. Did you know an easy tip for mat care is to keep it out of direct sun? The sunlight’s UV rays can damage the material in your self-healing mat, making it rough and dry. To extend its length, keep your mat in a place where it won’t be sitting in direct sunlight. One block down, 55 more to go 😅 Working on a quilt for Good Friday/Lent; it’s been one of the most requested quilt patterns this year, and I’m excited to have a draft of the pattern done. Putting a few touches on it before sending it to the pattern test team, and will hopefully have this quilt ready for February.

Tomorrow is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe (December 12th), where we commemorate the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Juan Diego in December 1531 as well as the beautiful, miraculous impression of her image on his tilma (cloak). There is such peace in the message she brought...which one of us, after an especially long, hard, trying day, isn't comforted by the beautiful words she shares? Relax. Find peace. Don't worry. Your mother is here. All will be well.
