It was such a pleasure to make this mini quilt for a friend! Sara (@thekeenbean) painted these adorable bird house paintings that were the inspiration behind the birdhouse quilt pattern. I wanted to make her something special using the pattern, so I created this little mini quilt!
She and her husband have three children, so I added three little birds to the mini quilt. I debated putting a mom and dad bird on there, too, but was worried five birds in the little space would be a bit to much. When it came to colors, I used colors similar to her original painting…loved the vibrant tones she used in the original. To personalize the mini quilt, I added a bit of machine embroidery to the bottom; it reads “The Pierce Family”. Finishing it off, I put two buttons in the same bright green at the top so she could hang it up.
This was such a fun little pattern to work with…and I’m making another version now in Christmas fabrics! Can’t you just imagine this with little Christmas trees and presents? So cute.
