I was honored (and a bit nervous) to be on A Seeking Heart radio show via Breadbox Media this past Monday! Hosted by the talented Allison Gingras of Reconciled to You, A Seeking Heart is a radio show about . This edition was extra special as Cristina Trinidad of Handmaid Embroidery co-hosted with Allison. It was my first time being on-air, and it almost perfectly…had it not been for bluetooth and street cleaners.
A street sweeper comes down our street twice a month to clean the streets. It’s become routine that every other Monday, hubby backs my car from the street into the driveway on his way to work to avoid getting a ticket (he’s the best). The radio show was at 10am EST, so for me…7am. I did the show in my PJs with a cup of coffee because – hey! No visual. Nice. (I also hadn’t brushed my teeth yet because coffee + minty tooth paste = yuck and again…no visual. Nice nice.)
So there I was, dialed into the show, proud that I hadn’t snorted, giggled, or made any other inappropriate sound that would get picked up on LIVE radio, when – all of a sudden – it went dead on my end. I mean, I could see the call was still connected, but I couldn’t hear ANYTHING. Total panic – do I hang up? Will they hear me hang up? Will that dial tone of an ended call end up on the air? Fingers crossed, I quickly hung up and dialed back in, hoping crisis was averted. The show progressed, and things seemed to go well.
The next day, I listened to the recording and – after getting over the sound of my voice (because you *never* sound like you think you do), this awful BRRRRRRRR sound came through the recording and the lovely Allison comments, “Oh, I think we lost Jen.” Aargh! So there *was* a horrible noise! In sharing this with my hubby, he commented, “Yeah, you know, when I turned your car on to move it, all of a sudden I heard the show coming through the speakers…but then it stopped.” Ohmygosh! Here I was, sitting in the office on the call, and when he goes to move my car the bluetooth picks up that the phone is active and transfers the call to my car! No wonder I lost the connection on my end! Thwarted by seamless technology.
Maybe I should be thankful *he* didn’t snort, giggle, or make any other inappropriate sound…

Oh gosh! At least you have a sense of humor about the “nterruption” Jen! God bless your work – have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Haha – thanks, Debbie! It’s definitely something that’s funnier *after* the fact 😉

Oh, I am listening to the podcast now. It is so nice to hear your voice! You sounded very professional and I was impressed with how you handled the interruption.

Sue, you are too kind! It’s funny to hear your voice when you are on the radio…I don’t feel as though I sound anything like that in real life. It was a lot of fun to do the program!
