Welcome back to Week 13 of #freemotionfriday! Our video library is growing with these awesome videos, so if you’ve missed any of them be sure to search for them here. Learning each week with you, as we share our faith journey, is such a pleasure. If you’re just beginning your journey, here’s a post to help launch your free motion practice this year.
This week we’ll be making a free motion quilt design called “Abundance of Flowers”. It’s inspired by Isaiah 35, written about God’s restoration of the land and the people of all nations after the final judgement. Now, I’m not necessarily ready for that final judgement just yet, but I am ready to feel God’s healing hand on me, on you, on us all.
The news has been so bleak, for so long, and something I’ve been praying for our country for years. This passage really struck me, as Yes! This! We, as a collective people, need to feel God’s restorative hand. Just as the promise was there to restore Israel, so, too, do we want him to restore us today. We want the wilderness, the desert, and the wastelands to be blossom with spring crocuses. We want to see and feel the abundance of flowers, the singing, and the joy!
Let’s get started in sewing our flowers, our free motion quilting design for the week. Here are three tips to help you as you create this design:
As you’ll see in the video above, one of the most important techniques here is to always return to that central point, keeping it tight. Otherwise, it will be hard to tell what you’re making as you won’t have clean petals on your flowers. Tell me – how many petals will your flowers have? Four to six seems to be my favorite, visually.
…and that’s it! Watch the short video above that breaks down the process even more. I look forward to hearing how your sewing goes; leave a comment letting me know how you did, and be sure to share your work on IG using the tag #freemotionfriday so I can see your beautiful work!
