6/13/16: MY SISTERS THE SAINTS
This poignant memoir, written by Colleen Carroll Campbell, tells her journey through joys and sorrows as she navigates life. My Sisters the Saints will make you laugh and cry, all while learning about the strongest women saints in our faith. Drawing upon the experiences and writings of Teresa of Avila, Therese of Lisieux, Faustina of Poland, Edith Stein of Germany, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and Mary of Nazareth, she grows and leans on each throughout her journey.
Loving applique, the book Crafted Applique is now on my must have list. The secret technique for guaranteed no-fray applique – even after rough wear *and* washing – is brilliant! Plus, there are some really fun projects inside to try out.
5/15/16: KEYS TO EVERLASTING LOVE
I’ve added “The Four Keys to Everlasting Love”, a new book by my bloggie friend Karee Santos. It’s already hit #2 in its category on Kindle and #4 in paperback during launch week, and has a 5 star rating on Amazon! Pope Francis praises marriage as a unique “friendship marked by passion” and “a free, faithful, and exclusive love.” Nurture yours today.
Recommended by Nancy B. for their wide selection of textured, linen, chenille, textured, modern, outdoor, and just about every other kind of fabric, Famcor fabric looks like a fabric store that has something for everyone!
4/10/16: SWIVEL GOOSENECK IPAD MOUNT*
Do you read online instruction, recipes, patterns – anything that requires you to follow a set of step-by-steps while trying to *make* that item on the same workspace as the iPad you’re watching it on? I just bought this awesome gooseneck mount, and having the iPad & iPhone lifted off the workspace and freeing up room is wonderful! Plus, it can be mounted to take overhead video (sewing tutorials!) which makes it an even better find. How would you use yours?
We bought these resurrection eggs for my son a few years ago, and they’ve become a fun way to share and learn about the real meaning behind Easter. So many ways to play! You can hide the eggs and send your children on a hunt that will lead them to the true treasure Easter. You can read the story together, open each egg, and find the surprise inside – a symbol of Jesus journey to the cross. Each set includes 1 egg carton, 12 plastic eggs with improved symbols inside, 1 beautifully illustrated, bilingual storybook and 1 set of colorful stickers.
In 40 ultra short stories (think 2.5 pages per section/story), Matthew Kelly invites you to rediscover your faith in the footsteps of Jesus. “At a time when so many people are spiritually disillusioned and searching for ways to live, love, work, and play that nurture the soul rather than destroy it, Matthew Kelly once again delivers a powerful book that encourages us in our weariness, challenges us in our comfort, and invites us to rediscover the beautiful possibilities God places before us daily.”
2/29/16: DRITZ ERGONOMIC SEAM RIPPER*
Can something like a seam ripper really (really) be improved upon? Yes. Yes. *If* it’s this awesome ergonomic one from Dritz, then yes. I love the coutoured grip and soft finger grips! It’s slightly larger size makes it way easier to hold, and the cap – which fits over the end – means I haven’t lost it (yet).
2/22/16: LENT DEVOTIONAL BY C.S. LEWIS* (and others)
This wonderful devotional has something for everyone. With readings from C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, Philip Yancy, and more, Bread and Wine brings focus to the season of Lent. With daily reading and reflection, this collection will satisfy the growing hunger for meaningful and accessible devotions. Culled from the wealth of twenty centuries, the selections in Bread and Wine are ecumenical in scope, and represent the best classic and contemporary Christian writers.
2/14/16: CHARM PACK BANDANNAS*
With summer just a few months away, I’m already dreaming of BBQs in the back yard, cool iced tea, and country music drifting through the air. Picked up a pack of these way cool 5″ precut bandanna charms, as they’d make the perfect summertime picnic blanket – don’t you think?
Wonder Clips are one of those items that will completely change the way you do binding, edges, and even hand sewing. Before, when it came time to bind, I would pin. Now, I clip with Wonder Clips – and the result is a much more even alignment of fabrics as they don’t skew since there is no pin. Plus, I don’t have to worry about pushing pins through thicker layers of applique and leaving holes – these clips nicely hold everything in place. Easy!
1/25/16: HE IS MY SALVATION VINYL WALL DECOR*
While at a friend’s home this past week, I passed by this beautiful vinyl decal above her fireplace! She wouldn’t let me take a picture as beside the decal were stick PB&J fingerprints…so here’s the official stock photo (though I would have loved her “real life” image!). Like how you can select so many different colors and prints to coordinate with your decor, space availability, and overall style.
1/18/16: SEWLINE TRIO: YOUR EVERYTHING 3-in-1*
Sharing my absolutely favorite sewing tool this week – so favorite, in fact, that I have two! This Sewline Trio packs quite a punch; with a quick twist, you have a pencil, chalk, or ball point tracer. The grip on the shaft ensure it doesn’t slip, and a generous eraser under the cap is right at hand. It’s my go-to when sketching a new quilt, tracing chalk lines, or creating depressions in fabric. Does your pencil do that?
1/11/16: BEAUTY IN THE BIBLE: ADULT COLORING BOOK*
Adult coloring books are all the rage – and after getting the book “Beauty in the Bible: Adult Coloring” as a gift, it’s easy to see why. It’s been such fun coloring something besides Curious George with my little man – now, when it’s time to color, we both have a favorite book to let our creativity shine! I highly recommend this book; the single-sided extra thick pages are perfect for markers, water color paints, and just about any other medium. Who do you know know that would love a copy?
1/4/16: ORGANIZING SOLUTIONS FOR EVERY QUILTER: AN ILLUSTRATED GUIDE*
With the Great Quilting Studio Remodel well underway, I’ve been referring to this amazing book more than you know. What sets this book apart from other articles is that the book walks you through scenarios on what is best for YOU and doesn’t assume a one-size-fits-all approach will fit everyone’s needs. Whether you are doing a full-room remodel, or just looking to organize a few drawers, there are a ideas in here to help get your space in its best shape yet!
