Welcome to TGIFF (Thank Goodness it’s Finished Friday) at Faith and Fabric! My name is Jen Frost, and I’m the Christian quilt pattern and fabric designer behind our signature Scripture Quilts ™ and Scripture Quilts Blocks™. I love sewing my faith and diving into the deeper meaning of scripture as we create! For real – one of my favorite ways to combine my love of sewing and faith is our Free Motion Friday series, where we learn a new free motion quilting design inspired by scripture.
Today I’m excited to share a recently finished quilt pattern with you: Faith and Freedom. To me, this quilt symbolizes the freedom we celebrate in our faith. I am proud of the country – as a whole – that we live in. I have three close girlfriends, one from Venezuela, one from Mexico, and one from Brazil. Knowing their stories reinforces how many freedoms we are granted here in the United States, and it’s these freedoms that I also hoped to capture in the quilt. A fourth friend is from Iran, where he and his wife were unable to practice their Christian faith; it’s that which has brought them to the States.
The country we live in has come a long way, and yet – like us as humans – it struggles. We’ve had personal experience with this; our friend was recently detained by ICE (in fact, here’s the GoFundMe I set up to help them). We live in San Diego, so we are surrounded by both the military and those seeking a new life, asylum, and refuge. My father, father-in-law, and both grandfathers were in the military, and we have countless friends that have and continue to serve. I am thankful to each one of them.
So, in this quilt I celebrate the beauty and freedom of our country while believing that it – as it always has, and always will – is still on a growing path with much work needing to be done to truly respect the dignity of the person that God created each of us to be. I have visions of it coming out every summer for 4th of July fireworks, beach bonfires, and summertime picnics!
Now, it’s your turn. Let me see what you’ve made this month. It’s so great to celebrate our finishes together!
