We received Baby’s First Bible from a friend at our son’s Baptism – I love the idea behind this book. The book is baby friendly with a sturdy cover that’s wipe-able and droll proof, too – but be sure to catch the droll quick if they slobber on the inside board pages. Those don’t have the same protective coating that the cover does. The handle on the side makes it great for carrying, though it’s a bit heavy for the littlest ones to tote around so mom or dad may have to lend a hand (haha – ok. fair. bad joke).
The book is about 20 pages long, and starts off with creation and ends with Jesus’s resurrection. The stories on the pages are bright and colorful, and have cutouts so you can see through from one page to another thereby incorporating the stories. The wording on the pages varies in terms of style…sometimes it’s a short rhyme, written as a story, or is an actual quote from the Bible. Most pages have a small activity for the baby or toddler to do – things like, “Can you sing Happy Birthday to Jesus?”.
Overall I thought the book was sweet. I would have liked it a bit better if it had chosen one style of writing and flowed with that throughout the book…for example, if it rhymed all the way through as the stories were retold (little ones are especially tuned in to rhymes at an early age). I’m interesting in reading “Noah’s Big Boat” by the same company and seeing if it follows a similar style. Besides, that one is supposed to have stickers and stickers just make everything more fun.
